BlogRush widget for WordPress-MU

If you want to help your WordPress-MU bloggers drive more traffic to their blogs, why not let them use BlogRush. You can watch the short BlogRush video to learn about it but in short this widget shows related posts from other blogs (like the one currently on the sidebar).

Each time the widget is shown, the blogger earns one credit point and for each credit point earned, one of the bloggers posts is shown on some other blog. One can also earn points by referring bloggers to the program (like a pyramid scam but no money is exchanged).

The BlogRush widget for WPMU is placed in the mu-plugins directory and the only thing the user must do is signup for an account with BlogRush and get his code. The code is part of a Java Script snippet like this one (code is highlighted in red):

Once the code is retrieved just enter it in the widget:

  1. Would there be a way to set it for the ADMIN code to pre populate until the user changes it?

  2. Paul – this is a widget that the user should select to add into his sidebar. Until this is done the BlogRush widget is not shown. I think that once he adds it he will enter his code.

    I’m posting this comment to let you know that many people are confused when one uses the word “wordpress” and does not follow it with .com or .org. I think your wordpress.com readers may benefit from knowing that bloggers with free hosted wordpress.com blogs cannot use the BlogRush javascript widget

    There is no official policy against Blogrush. There wasn’t one for mybloglog and that waited until someone (engtech?) found a js-free way of using it. The others you mention above are static links whereas Blogrush has changing content.
    Widgets and links which are there to increase readership are not a bad thing, just their js implementation is.
    The only viral thing I recall which we really did not like was one in which people filled a post or two with dozens and dozens of links. That sort of thing is not good because it benefits only a few and exploits many.
    If anyone wants clarification, send details to Support and we’ll take a look. But most of the time it’s going to need javascript so the widget has dynamic content so the odds are against it.

    I’m not sure about the confusion issue. The title of me post is “BlogRush widget for WordPress-MU”, note the MU. You can take look at it here: mu.wordpress.org

  5. blog-rush widget did not install. New blog (under dev). I HAVE successfully installed another plu-in in the MU-Plugins folder. Anything I need to know to make this work? Thanks
