Brooke Shields Joins Toys R Us Franchise

December 19th, 2006

Toys ‘R’ Us and Babies ‘R’ Us Stores Become ‘Giving Headquarters’ This Christmas to Make Millions of Holiday Dreams Come True.

With 13 million children living in poverty in the U.S. and thousands more born into an impoverished situation every day, today Toys “R” Us, Inc. kicked off its most ambitious national toy drive campaign to bring smiles and toys to needy children during the holiday season.

Enlisting the help of celebrity actress Brooke Shields, Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us stores launched the Million Toy Drive to boost toy and monetary donations to benefit the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Through its 2006 holiday toy drive, Toys “R” Us, Inc. has created the largest retail partnership in the history of Toys for Tots.

Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us stores will serve as the “Giving Headquarters” this Christmas with a company goal of raising $4 million through in-store and online donations and collecting one million toys in retail locations across the country. All money and toy donations received in Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us stores will help needy children in the local communities where the donations are made.

“As a mom of two small children, it breaks my heart that so many kids go without even one toy at Christmastime,” said Brooke Shields. “By working with Toys ‘R’ Us and Toys for Tots, I hope to encourage parents to teach their kids about the importance of giving back to their communities, while motivating everyone who can to make a donation to this incredibly worthy cause.”

Brooke Shields: ‘I Got Katie Something Old’

December 19th, 2006

The always stunning Brooke Shields turned quite a few heads in Rome over the weekend on her way to Tom and Katie’s fairy tale wedding.

Now the starlet is back in the United States, and despite what you may have heard, Brooke told “Extra” she did not have trouble picking out TomKat’s wedding gift.

“Well, they registered, so that was not an issue,” she revealed. “I mean I had to give Katie the something old, and it wasn’t just me at the wedding, the something old by the way. I actually brought a gift. I did say that to my friend, that I’m doing the something old. And she said, ‘What, are you showing up?’”

Days after returning from Rome, all eyes were on Brooke’s baby daughter Grier as she took center stage at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York.

“I spent my Friday baptizing my baby girl,” Shields revealed. “And it was a beautiful day for us.”

It was also a beautiful night for Shields and her family, as they joined actress Lauren Holly at the tree lighting ceremony at LEGOLAND in California to raise adoption awareness.

“I promised my daughter that she would see the LEGOLAND tree,” Shields revealed. “I’ve been blessed and lucky. And when I look at my babies, I think, I can’t imagine babies without a home.”

Brooke Shields visit big draw for annual gala

November 19th, 2006

As Meridian Services has discovered, when you bring a star like Brooke Shields to town, people will come.

Officials say 920 tickets have been sold for tonight’s 30th anniversary gala dinner, at which Shields will be guest speaker. Tickets for the dinner were $75 each. The event is sponsored by the Voss Center for Women and will take place at Horizon Convention Center.

“The response from the public for this event has been phenomenal,” said Ellise Hayden of Meridian Services. “Brooke was a wonderful choice for our guest speaker.”

In addition to speaking at the dinner, Shields will participate in an afternoon ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the near-completion of the not-for-profit agency’s new child services center. The center is expected to open before year’s end in the former Morrison-Mock Elementary School along Godman Avenue.

Hank Milius, president and CEO of Meridian Services, said he believes the message Shields will share at tonight’s dinner is an important one for the community to hear.

“In terms of issues related to post-partum depression, Brooke’s ability to overcome that obstacle and the stigma that so often comes with it is a very powerful story,” he explained.

Tomkat guests arriving in Rome include Brooke Shields

November 19th, 2006

Spotted at the Rome airport Thursday morning, probably arriving for the Tomkat wedding, were Jennifer Lopez and her husband, Marc Anthony, Jim Carrey, Jada Pinkett Smith and Brooke Shields. Shields and actor Tom Cruise had a public spat last year after the “Mission: Impossible III” star criticized the actress for taking antidepressants after the birth of her first daughter. Shields said in September that Cruise had personally apologized to her. Cruise, 44, and actress Katie Holmes, 27, became engaged in June 2005 and have a daughter, Suri, born April 18. The couple remains mum about where their weekend wedding will be held.

Brooke Shields’ back to work!

October 29th, 2006

Now that daughter Grier Henchy is a few months old, Brooke Shields is out bringing home the proverbial bacon. She is currently appearing as plastic surgeon Christian Troy’s therapist on Nip/Tuck and played a supermodel-whose-husband-cheated-on-her-with-an-18-year-old-girl type character on a recent episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

And now you may have seen her new Colgate Total commercial in heavy rotation. In it, Brooke either plays herself or an actress-mom-to-two-girls type who says that a healthy mouth and smile is important to her as an actress and as a mom. It took a viewing or two of the commercial before I realized that the kids in the commercial are not Rowan and Grier!

Brooke Shields to speak at anniversary dinner

October 15th, 2006

Actress Brooke Shields will be guest speaker at the 30th anniversary dinner for Meridian Services Nov. 9 at the Horizon Convention Center.

“We’re thrilled to have someone of Brooke Shields’s stature as a part of this special evening,” said Meridian President/CEO Hank Milius, citing Shields’s 2005 best-selling book Down Came the Rain: My Journey through Post-Partum Depression. “Brooke is no different than millions of Americans who seek care for mental wellness.”

The book describes Shields’s unexpected experience with post partum depression (PPD), her feelings of stigma, hopelessness, and despair including suicidal thoughts associated with this all-too-common illness.

The Voss Center for Women, Meridian’s neighbor in the Muncie Med Center on Tillotson Avenue, will be the Nov. 9 event’s main sponsor.

Shields will participate in a ribbon cutting at Meridian’s new child services center on River Road (in the former Morrison-Mock Elementary School), as well as a private reception and book signing and the gala dinner. The Voss Center for Women will provide attendees at the private reception with a signed copy of Shield’s book and photo opportunities with the star.

For much of this year, Meridian has been active in celebrating its 30th anniversary through open houses at its various locations throughout East Central Indiana. A press conference in February announced the organization’s name change from Comprehensive Mental Health Services to Meridian.

Brooke Shields touts Colgate again in new campaign

October 15th, 2006

She’s flashed her body in “Pretty Baby,” flashed her legs in “Cabaret” and “Chicago,” and now she’s again going to flash her smile for Colgate toothpaste.

Brooke Shields, 41, who first gained fame as the teen-age model appearing in the then-risque “Nothing Comes Between Me and My Calvins” advertisements some 25 years ago, will be featured in a television commercial for Colgate-Palmolive Co.’s Colgate Total toothpaste brand.

Shields first promoted Colgate toothpaste as a child in the 1970s, in a print advertisement featuring a photo shot by Richard Avedon.

The new campaign comes as Colgate Total, which has been sold in the U.S. since 1997, faces some pressure from rival Procter & Gamble Co.’s Crest Pro-Health toothpaste, which hit U.S. stores in August.

Colgate Total and Crest Pro-Health are both promoted as having a variety of health benefits, such as being more effective at fighting gingivitis than typical toothpastes. They also cost more than their mainstream counterparts.
