First Look with Photos: Samsung BlackJack Windows Mobile Phone for Cingular

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

Our shiny new Samsung BlackJack arrived today. Otherwise known as the Samsung SPH-i607, this is a GSM Windows Mobile Smartphone that competes with the T-Mobile Dash and Motorola Q. It features a landscape 320 x 240 display that’s very sharp and pretty, though the Dash’s is a bit larger with even more pleasing color. The phone runs Windows Mobile 5 with AKU 3.0.2 for all the latest enhancements and bug fixes. This is an MS Smartphone, not a Pocket PC Phone Edition, which means it lacks a touch screen. It’s offered by Cingular in the US and should be available on Nov. 16th for $199 with a 2 year contract.

The BlackJack is a close cousin to the import triband Samsung i320 we reviewed in September. The BlackJack/ i607 makes some important improvements in keyboard layout and battery life over the i320. And of course the BlackJack is 3G and quadband.

Samsung i320N Mobile Phone Review

Sunday, October 15th, 2006

We like the Samsung SGH-i320N’s unique slim chassis with built-in QWERTY keyboard. It has a few useful features for mobile business needs like push mail, a pocket office suite, Internet Explorer and MSN Messenger, but our gripe is that it doesn’t support faster connectivity like 3G or Wi-Fi.

Samsung SGH-X820 review

Saturday, September 23rd, 2006

The Samsung P300 was both innovative and successful, but now Samsung has now gone a step further and taken the lead with the Samsung SGH-X820, which at 6.9 mm is the slimmest phone in the world. I wouldn’t be surprised if other manufacturers go down this path and manage to spur Samsung on to even greater achievements. You cannot believe how thin the Samsung X820 is until you have held it. Next to the slim design, Samsung has managed to boost the X820 with a 2 Megapixel digital camera, with a maximum photo resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels. I tried the Samsung SGH-X820 out for a while and will discuss its functions and characteristics in the following mobile phone review.
