Pump selection made easy

Thursday 15 February 2007 @ 8:15 am

Local pump manufacturer Denorco is heavily involved in pump selection and ensures that the right pump for the job is specified.

This can often be a daunting task, but with Denorco’s specially developed ‘select-a-pump’ programme the job is simplified.

The programme was developed by Denorco, and the company put an extensive amount of capital into the development – the programme is now on version 5.90 and is constantly being updated. Denorco product manager Steven Rose tells Mining Weekly this is quite a sophisticated programme for South Africa, and contains an electronic catalogue of all Denorco pumps, including dimensions, performance curves and everything clients need to take into consideration when selecting a pump.

“Type in the actual product you wish to pump (for example water) with its specific gravity, viscosity and flow rate – if you don’t know the system pressure requirement, there is a pipeline module where you can design a pipeline system, and the programme will give you the pressure that your system will require.

Saving costs with ’smart’ pumps

Thursday 15 February 2007 @ 8:14 am

When the Vienna Hilton, built in the 1970s, was recently renovated, speed-controlled pumps from ITT Vogel Pumpen were installed. These state-of-the-art pumping systems are delivering significant cost savings in the operation of the hotel’s heating, air-conditioning and water supply systems, says Steve Minett, PhD .

The Hilton hotel in Vienna has under gone a total refurbishment, requiring the building to be closed for one and a half years. The renewed hotel now has 579 modern guest rooms and 45 luxury suites. In addition, the Vienna Hilton can now also offer Austria’s biggest and newest hotel conference hall. This has an area of 830 square meters and can accommodate an audience of 900 people. The hotel has retained its 423-square-meter ballroom and it can now offer an additional 11 other meeting rooms, ranging in size from 60 to 180 square meters. A brand new bar has been added, the gym expanded and the restaurant has been completely re-designed along ultra-modern lines. The works of several Austrian artists have been included in the interior designs. Transportation between the hotel and airport has been dramatically upgraded by a new direct airport shuttle service, CAT, which departs from directly beneath the hotel. The service incorporates flight check-in facilities and the journey time is 14 minutes.
